Founded in 1973 by Gerardo Méndez, Do Ferreiro is located in the sub-zone of Salnes, considered the best growing area of the region with its close proximity to the ocean and protection from the wind and weather of the steep Galician mountain ranges. The estate comprises 10 hectares, some of which include 200 year old vines. We have sold his regular Albariño for years as it is one of the best!
Gerardo also makes this ‘experimental wine from a vineyard site called, Rebisaca that is planted with Albariño, which is then blended with Treixadura and sometimes Loureiro, from the sub-zone known as Condado, on the border with Portugal. This 2015 is 85% Albarino and 15% Treixadura which was fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and then aged on its lees for almost nine months before bottling.’ It has a decidedly different personality than the regular Albarino bottling but there is still a major family resemblance. It almost feels like there is even more minerality with the addition of Treixadura and perhaps a touch more acidity, as this Rebisaca comes off as leaner in body and overall concentration of fruit. Yet, it's still a really tasty wine and would fit the bill perfectly when you're in the mood for something fun and different from Spain. This is your bottle!
