We certainly count ourselves lucky to receive an allocation of Cathy Corison's spectacular Cabernet Sauvignons. We only wish we could get more, as they are gaining new fans every day and unfortunately, there is not as much to go around these days as there was a few years ago. Like all of Cathy's Cabernets, regardless of vintage "quality" this is another lovely, elegant wine that is showing beautifully now but will only get better with time in the cellar. As usual, she achieves just the right amount of fruit in balance with just the right amount of oak to make a truly graceful Cabernet Sauvignon.
Cathy is an extremely talented yet incredibly humble winemaker who has quietly been crafting some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley since 1986. So when she describes her own wines, it is not with hubris or arrogance, just a clear confidence in what she was able to accomplish. In her own words, "2018 is the darkest, inkiest vintage in my memory, a result of an extremely long, cool ripening season with cold nights. Happily, natural acidity persists during ripening under these conditions and wildly complex flavors and aromas result. As the weather was perfect at flowering, we had a bumper crop of deliciousness, making everyone happy. Violet and dried rose perfume jumps out of the glass along with tart cherry, blueberry, plum and cassis fruit. Flavors follow with cocoa and refreshing minerality joining the party with a tantalizing white pepper note for interest. Signature velvety tannins add texture and a gentle grip to complete the picture." - Cathy Corison
