Capichera makes some of the best Vermentino in the world, and most definitely on the island of Sardegna. In fact, their wines are considered to be some of the finest in Italy. We feel really lucky to be able to sell them, and this Classico in particular since it's their flagship wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks then aged for six months in a mix of new and neutral French barriques oak barrels, this is rich, enveloping and layered wine with loads of complexity and regal composure. The enticing aromas on the nose are floral, herbal, mineral and tropical while the fuller medium bodied palate emanates with pure, deep flavors of citrus, stone and more tropical fruit (think pineapple in a good way) flavors. We wouldn't say this is a heady wine but it demands attention and will impress anyone who gets the opportunity to enjoy it!
The Ragneddas have resided in and around the town of Arzachena in the Gallura zone of Capichera since the 19th century. They released their first wine, made from Vermentino, which originated in Gallura, in 1980. It was immediately heralded as one of Italy's great whites and firmly launched Capichera as an estate to watch. Thanks to the tireless efforts of brothers, Fabrizio and Marco, the Ragneddas have indeed become that singular producer responsible for making world class Sardinian wines. Everything we've tried from them has been spectacular.
