Winemaker Seth Kunin proudly makes his Pape Star Red blend in “homage to the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape - wines that are both honest and bold in their deliciousness as well as versatile, accessible and age worthy." And that actually sums up pretty well what this blend of 50% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 6% Cinsault is all about! This is a juicy, lip smacking delicious bottle of wine that is sure to make many friends. As is his custom, Seth didn't use any new oak in aging the wine so it instead rested for 10 months in neutral barrels with an average age of six years. Aromas of juicy red cherries, cocoa, white pepper, smoked paprika, dried violets and fresh flowers leap from the glass on the explosive nose. The medium-bodied palate continues with that juicy, sweet Grenache goodness of red berry and black plum, as well as cassis mixed in with a little essence of garrigue-scented, dried herbs. The finish lingers with mellow, very well integrated tannins and a nice kick of spice at the end. We'd love to see this wine in a few years’ time yet don't think anyone will be able to resist drinking it now.
