Spottswoode is one of Napa Valley's most legendary estates with a history going back to the 1800s. It would be considered a 'First Growth' if California used the French rating system for vineyards as they do in Bordeaux. And like wines from the great Bordeaux Chateaux, Spottswoode's Cabernet Sauvignons age beautifully, and really need time in bottle to settle down and show their purity and grace. This elegant 2014 is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot that was aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Winemaker, Aron Weinkauf describes it as follows, "This wine exudes power and elegance. Dense and focused with primary, bright, youthful, fresh characters. Plenty of ripe blue and red fruit accompanied by notes of mocha, carob, butterscotch, and toast. Hints of dried herb and rose petal. Long, clean, and fresh, its strong acid backbone is a hallmark of what will be another long-lived, collectible wine. Discernable tannins that are youthful yet lengthy complement the underlying intense fruit. Great texture! All the promise you like to find in a young wine."
