Laurel Glen produces two main wines: the 100% Laurel Glen Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and the Counterpoint Cabernet Sauvignon which is made with the more “forward, showy lots that are more appealing as young wines” from the Laurel Glen Vineyard, along with grapes from the Pickberry and Murray Ranch vineyards, also on Sonoma Mountain. The Counterpoint is aged in 30% new Taransaud French oak barrels and 10% new Canton American oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. This 2014 reveals all the wonderful qualities of that excellent vintage with delicious fruit at just the right ripeness level without being too intense, alongside great balancing acidity. While the aroma of oak peaks out a bit on the nose, it will clearly subside with a little time resting in bottle. Winemaker Randall Watkins describes it as follows: "2014 Laurel Glen Counterpoint has lovely aromas of plum and dark raspberry. In the mouth, the wine unfolds in layers of spice and anise. The finish is fresh and bright with a focused minerality and tannins that are firm, round and delicious."
