The Chave family has been making Hermitage since the year 1481! That's 1481, not 1841 - for over five centuries. With 16 consecutive generations farming their land and producing legendary Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne from Hermitage, they are somewhat seriously referred to as "France's winemaking royal family." Both the Hermitage Rouge and Hermitage Blanc are extremely limited in production and not inexpensive. However, they are wines of incredible pedigree, structure and finesse and are built for aging. This 2011 Hermitage Rouge will happily reside in your cellar for years and no doubt reward your patience when you finally decide to open it. Or you can open it tonight to enjoy after decanting. Either way it will be an experience.
