This 2014 Napa Valley Merlot from Duckhorn Vineyards is a delicious blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc sourced from both their estate vineyards as well as other top sites in Napa Valley. It was aged in 40% new and 60% neutral French oak barrels for 16 months yet the vibrant red fruit flavors still take center stage with more subtle accents from the oak aging showing on the supple, velvety finish that is the classic Duckhorn style. 2014 was another great growing season and this wine is another wonderful expression of the excellent vintage in Napa Valley. Duckhorn is even more excited about the end result, and describes the wine as follows, "Combining lovely structure and alluring appeal, this is a classic expression of Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot. Intense aromas of ripe cherry, plum and black fig rise from the glass, underscored by hints of leather and cedar. On the palate, it is lush and supple, with bright acidity and velvety tannins supporting layers of raspberry and black cherry, as well as hints of coffee and chocolate that carry through on the long finish."
