This wine is kind of a paradox. On the one hand it is dark and intense with a very tannic structure. On the other it is expressive and bright with crunchy cranberry and pretty aromatic notes. It is no doubt intriguingly cool and would really sing with a nice meal of braised or roasted meats. It prompted our owner, Debbie Zachareas, to declare it "one of the best and most interesting Spanish wines" she has tried in a long time. This “Collita Roja” is 100% Sumoll (an ancient red grape indigenous to Penedes) from 70-100 year old certified organic vines in the northern Penedes vineyards of Torrelavit, Sant Llorenç d´Hortons, Piera and la Llacuna. It is made by Ramon Parera (an oenologist) and Jordi Arnan (an agronomist) who founded Celler Pardas on the Can Comas estate in the Riudebitlles Valley. They only produce still wines in Penedes which is famous for Cava, Spain's champagne method sparkling wine, from Cabernet Franc, Monastrell (Mourvèdre), Cabernet Sauvignon and Sumoll for the reds and the traditional Cava varietals of Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada, along with Malvasia.
