This 'CVC' is 40% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot and 11% Malbec and was aged for 21 months in 30% new French oak barrels. It's not every day we find such a well rounded, easy drinking Bordeaux blend with such wide appeal at such a friendly price point but we are glad we discovered this gem from Calluna Vineyards. The wine is even more impressive when you consider it's from the problematic 2011 vintage yet it does not suffer a bit from the challenging harvest that year. Founded by David Jeffrey who trained under Dr. Alain Raynaud of Chateau Quinault l'Enclos in Bordeaux, Calluna is a 12 acre hilltop estate in Sonoma's Chalk Hill appellation planted to the ‘five classic red Bordeaux varieties broken out into specific blocks and matched to the unique components of the soils.’ It was eagerly consumed when we featured it on the wine bar menu and we're having a hard time keeping it on the shelves.
