2016 Simonsig Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa

This 2016 Chenin Blanc was aged sur lie in stainless steel tanks and is Simonsig's 47th vintage of the varietal! Like many examples of the grape made in South Africa, it shows the brighter, crisper, livelier version of Chenin with a thrilling vivacity and easygoing charm. Flavors on the light bodied palate range from guava and honeydew melon to green apple and lime zest. The finish is very crisp and dry and leaves you wanting more. This is a super tasty wine that will brighten up any dish, or just your day. Simonsig is one of South Africa's oldest wine estates with a French lineage and history going back to 1688 when Hugeunot, Jacques Malan first arrived in at the Cape of Good Hope. He eventually migrated further inland to Stellenbosch where he established a vineyard and winery. Centuries later, his descendant, Frans Malan planted new vineyards in the foothills of Simonsberg Mountain just outside of Stellenbosch in De Hoop. He released his first estate grown wines in 1968 under the name ‘Simonsig’ which literally translates to ‘Simon’s View’ in reference to the ‘spectacular views of Simonsberg Mountain.”
