2016 Saviah Cabernet Jack, Columbia Valley, Washington

The 'Jack' as in one of a kind, one eyed Jack in a deck of cards, is a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend sourced from select Columbia Valley vineyards including Baachus, Elephant Mountain, Lonesome Springs, Pepper Bridge, Mirage, Stillwater Creek, Seven Hills, Summit View, McClellan Estate, Sugarloaf, and Dugger Creek Vineyards. In addition to the 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, it also has 11% Malbec, 9% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. We are always in search of a great Bordeaux blend and were excited to find such a great example from Washington, especially at such a great price of $20! It hits on all the right attributes for an easy going, crowd pleasing wine that is so well made, it should cost twice as much. As winemaker, Richard Funk notes, "it's a deliciousdescribes it as follows, "classic aromas of mint, black cherry, cassis, cacao, and barrel spice are present in spades. Delicious flavors, beautiful balance and a long, smooth finish."

 Without any formal winemaking education, Richard Funk founded Saviah Cellars in 2000. In addition to the fruit he sources from surrounding sites, he also farms a total of six distinct estate vineyards which are planted to several different varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Barbera, Sangiovese and Viognier. Richard only made 349 cases of this Barbera.
