This wine was a hit in our wine club when we featured it a few years ago. We are happy to see that the 2016 is just as good, expressing the same bright and cheerful personality with vibrant lemon citrus aromas on the nose and tasty melon and apricot flavors on the light bodied palate. The finish is crisp and clean as a whistle, whetting it all the more after every sip.
José Antonio Arévalo and Benicio Garcia created their own winery, Garciarévalo, in 1991 bringing together the centuries old Verdejo vineyards of each of their families. The estate is in the Matapozuelos municipality of Rueda at 900 meters above sea level situated between two rivers, making for a uniquely cool microclimate (for the sun drenched region) with significant temperature variations between day and night. The sustainably farmed vines (according to organic practices) have thrived on sandy soil which is impervious to phylloxera, allowing them to survive on their own root stock now for up to between 100 to 145 years. Jose Antonio, Benicio and their small but dedicated team are proud to carry on the traditions of their families and passionate about crafting distinctive, truly old vine Verdejo.
