We thought our favorite Corsian producer, Yves Leccia, cornered the market on Nielluccio based red blends, until we tried this gem from Domaine Pieretti. With notes of red plum, and a little white pepper, this baby finishes with snappy acidity that makes one think of a Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. Though, this blend of 70% Nielluccio and 30% Grenache is more fleshy and ever so slightly rounded on the medium-bodied palate. It proves to be a well structured wine with somewhat chalky tannins which are at the same time well integrated. This is a very nice wine from an up and coming producer who just happens to be a very talented woman. Lina Venturri Pieretti took over the estate from her grandfather and looks after 14 hectares of sustainably farmed vines located a stone's throw from the Mediterranean Sea on the eastern side of Cap Corse.
