We think the wines of Skylark just keep getting better with every new vintage as is the case here with this delicious 2016 Pinot Blanc. Proprietors John Lancaster and Rob Perkins have been sourcing their grapes from the same Orsi Vineyard in Mendocino County consistently from their first vintage in 2005 and it has really paid off. As they point out, this year's Orsi "has that special interplay of fruit and tension that is reserved only for the best vintages." The nose is really expressive with vibrant aromas of guava, lime zest and tart green apple. The medium-bodied palate continues in the tropical and citrus zones and is joined by more apple as well as Bosc pear flavors while the finish is bright and crisp with a pleasant bitter almond note. The bountiful fruit and lively acidity in this charming summery white make it the perfect counterpoint to a meaty grilled fish such as halibut or swordfish.
