This 2016 Sauvignon Blanc was fermented and aged in two thirds stainless steel tanks and one third in neutral oak barrels for six months. While the nose suggests somewhat grassy aromas, it's really more in the fragrant lemon grass realm than anything. Along with faint scents of apricot, the palate reveals more prominent stone fruit flavors as in white peach and nectarine, as well as a bit of grapefruit citrus. The finish is dry and crisp with nice balancing acidity and a touch of honey. 480 cases were made.
Alysian Wines was formed by Bill Hambrecht, the famous financier who founded Hambrecht & Quist, the investment banking firm that took Apple Computer, Genentech and Adobe Systems public, and Gary Farrell of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir fame in 2006. In addition to Bill’s dealings in technology, he also became a grape grower in the early 1970s when he purchased his first properties, Floodgate Vineyard in Anderson Valley and Grist Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. By 2013, when Gary and Bill were ready to retire, the 30 year old Woody Hambrecht (Bill’s grandson) took over running the company and managing the Grist Vineyard, where he now lives overseeing the sustainable farming and making the wines.
