This 2015 Floodgate White Wine is a blend of 50% Gewürztraminer from the Anderson Valley, 35% Viognier from the Tzabaco Ranch and 15% Sauvignon Blanc from the Grist Vineyard, both in Dry Creek Valley. The grapes were fermented and aged separately in stainless steel for over eight months for the Gewürztraminer and Viognier and neutral oak barrels for the Sauvignon Blanc. As one would expect from such aromatic varietals, the nose is perfumed and fragrant with floral, summer garden scents and stone fruits. The medium-bodied palate offers distinctive notes of white peach and honey from the Viognier, lychee and rose water from the Gewürztraminer and Meyer lemon citrus from the Sauvignon Blanc. It is the addition of Sauvignon Blanc that gives the wine its underlying acidity, leads to a crisp finish and adds lovely balance to an otherwise opulent wine. The aromatics and juiciness in this blend make it a perfect match for a fragrant Thai or Vietnamese dish such as Thai grilled chicken with cilantro dipping sauce.
