The ‘Les Coères’ vineyard is situated at 300 meters above sea level and made up of mostly old vines with an average age of 60 years. The wine was fermented in mostly used demi-muids oak casks and barriques and aged on its lees for 10 months. We liked this Montagny for its clean and approachable style as it's ready to drink now. Lighter bodied and fairly crisp, the oak is very well integrated and feels barely there, leaving room for the fresh apple and citrus flavors to shine in a cool, mellow manner. A great white Burgundy at a great price!
Françoise Feuillat-Juillot grew up around wine at her family’s small Burgundy estate, and even fell in a vat when she was a little girl! However, once she graduated high school, she decided to leave home and go to Paris to study international trade. Two years away from the vines made her miss the wine country life more than she expected, so she came back and studied enology at the University of Dijon. In 1989, she joined another domaine in Montagny-les-Buxy that was a 14 hectare property with 8 hectares under vine. She helped expand the vineyards as well as the total production and was left to manage everything on her own after the owner passed away in 2002. In 2004, she purchased the estate and re-named it Domaine Feuillat-Juillot. With the help of four full-time employees, Françoise manages all aspects from farming, which she does sustainably, to making the wines and running the business, producing about 6,000 cases annually.
