This elegant and understated Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir includes some of the first grapes harvested from La Encantada and Bien Nacido vineyards for the 2014 harvest. The final wine was aged for 15 months in 25% new and 75% second and third use French oak barrels. It shows medium toned fruit of mostly dark cherry flavors, a subtle floral note and a really silky finish. A great Pinot from some of the best vineyard sites in Santa Barbara County!
Ryan Deovlet is an up and coming winemaker producing small quantities of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from select vineyards along California's Central Coast. He spent the next four years apprenticing with Stephen Dooley of Stephen Ross Wine Cellars, David Ramey at Red Car Wine Co and Paul Hobbs at Viña Cobos in Argentina. He focused a lot of his attention in the vineyards, gaining an appreciation for the importance of vine balance, as opposed to vineyard yield, in order ‘to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness.’ . In fact, it was through his partnership in helping to farm parts of the La Encantada Vineyard in Santa Rita Hills (and making great wine with the fruit) that had legendary owner, Richard Sanford, offer Ryan a plot of his own. That was all he needed to launch his label in 2008 and he has been producing very small quantities (200 cases or less) of Santa Barbara County and vineyard designated wines ever since.
