To honor her Grandfather, Don Domingo Vicente Catena, and his famous ‘deep dark reds’ served in the Bistros of Buenos Aires in the 1930s, fourth generation Argentine vintner, Laura Catena, worked closely with long time winemaker, Alejandro Vigil, to create this 'D.V. Catena Tinto Historico'. A blend of 92% Malbec and 8% Petit Verdot, this 2014 vintage was fermented in stainless steel tanks, aged for 14 months in first, second and third use French oak barrels, and for an additional 10 months in bottle before release. Concentrated aromas leap from the glass in layers of dark red and black fruits, dark chocolate, cedar and allspice. The fuller-bodied palate continues with flavors of black plum and chocolate-covered cherries for a delicious mouthful of juicy Argentine goodness. That the wine finishes with smooth tannins and great balance is indeed testament to the Catena family's extraordinary talent for blending. We were thrilled to feature this standout wine in our club and continue to honor the great Catena family and all they have done for their country.
