2013 Muhr-Van der Niepoort Prellenkirchen, Carnuntum, Austria

We recently had the pleasure of meeting winemaker, Dorhi Muhr-Van der Niepoort and tasting through her wines. Known mostly for her red Blaufrankisch bottlings, we were delighted to discover she also makes this intriguing white which is a blend of 90% Gruner Veltliner and 10% Riesling. It reveals all the aromatics, acidity and minerality one would expect from the two varietals with grace and aplomb. Fuller bodied with a silky mouth feel, the wine ends on a subtle earthy note and that wonderful balancing acidity that keeps you coming back for more. It would be great on its own or with classically paired spicy Asian cuisine.

According to the importer, Blue Danube, "Prellenkirchen is part of the Carnuntum winemaking region known for its warm Pannonian climate and stony chalk and loess soils. The grapes are crushed by foot with their stems and pressed after two days of maceration. Then, the must is fermented and matured in used French oak." We only have a limited amount...
