This 2013 Napa Valley Merlot from Duckhorn Vineyards is a delicious blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc sourced from both their estate vineyards as well as other top sites in Napa Valley. It was aged in 25% new and 75% one year old French oak barrels for 15 months so the vibrant red fruit flavors take center stage with more subtle accents from the oak aging showing on the supple, velvety finish that is the classic Duckhorn style. 2013 was another incredible growing season and this wine is a wonderful expression of the excellent vintage in Napa Valley.
Duckhorn is even more effusive about the end result, and describes the wine as follows, "this gorgeous wine displays intense aromas of ripe cherry, followed by more nuanced elements of cedar, sweet spices, orange peel and cigar box. On the palate, layers of black raspberry and spiced plum mingle with more savory notes of nutmeg and pencil lead. With firm, well-integrated tannins that extend the finish, this beautifully structured Merlot also promises great ageability."
