Domaine du Haut Bourg is run by fourth generation winegrowers, Hervé and Nicolas Choblet. The first vine was planted in 1945 and today the estate covers 40 hectares in the heart of Muscadet in Côtes de Grandilieu. The domaine is situated in the town of Bouaye, northwest of Grandilieu Lake, just south of the Loire River where the vines are planted at very low altitudes of 15-25 meters above sea level. The low altitude, coupled with low diurnal temperature shifts, makes for an early harvest and delivers grapes with the right sugar levels that still retain the generous acidity typical of Muscadet. Aged in tank for 10 years, this special 2005 vintage proves that point perfectly with a lovely aged character that still reveals a subtle richness and an excellent sense of fresh acidity. It's a wonderful example of not only the estate's high quality fruit, but the impressive aging ability of a good Muscadet!
