Ferdinando Zanusso believes his I Clivi wines are made in his vineyard and does as little as possible to interfere with their development in the cellar. He only works with indigenous varietals to the DOCs of Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli, which include Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Malvasia and Verduzzo, and farms his 12 hectares of grapes organically. We recently tasted his Friulanos which also included an older vintage from 2000 which blew us away. Ferdinando likes to keep stock in the cellar of special vintages to see how they age. This 2000 was one of his favorites and he feels it is showing perfectly now, revealing a slightly oxidized character, great texture and excellent minerality. It is a wonderful contrast to the brightness and vibrancy of the current release 2015 vintage. Both wines need to be experienced and will impress anyone who does.
